Nectar Mattress Review
Who are Nectar mattresses for?
- If you are looking to give memory foam a try, but are worried you won’t like it, the returns policy on the Nectar gives you a long period for returns. (Nectar Original and Nectar Lush)
- Anyone looking for an affordable memory foam mattress. (Nectar Original)
- All sleep categories in the small to medium size categories, although the Nectar Lush is especially good for side sleepers, while stomach sleepers may find it a little too soft. With the Nectar original, most people in the petite weight category will be happy with it, but there is a note of caution that some may find it too firm.
- It bears repeating that, if you are a side sleeper, the Nectar Lush has been specifically targeted to you and offers very good pressure relief. (Nectar Lush)
- If you are a light sleeper, or if you find yourself disturbed during the night because you share your bed with a restless partner, the slow responsiveness and effective motion isolation makes this a great choice for you. (Nectar Original and Nectar Lush)
- If you are a fan of memory foam, both these mattresses have that classic memory foam feel of being cradled within the mattress. (Nectar Original and Nectar Lush)
- If you are the kind of buyer who values generous company policies, Nectar offers a far longer sleeping trial period, forever warranty, and extended returns policy relative to other mattress brands. (Nectar Original and Nectar Lush)
Who won’t love the Nectar and Nectar Lush mattresses?
- If you weigh in a bit heavier, as with most memory foam mattresses, you will probably prefer a coil or hybrid model. (Nectar Original and Nectar Lush)
- If you prefer to sleep on top of your mattress or have an aversion to memory foam, I would re-think both the Nectar and the Nectar Lush. You can expect to sink into these classic memory foam mattresses. (Nectar Original and Nectar Lush)
- If you are shopping on a budget, the Nectar Lush comes in a little pricier than the Nectar Original (although it can’t be said that the Nectar Original is a cheap mattress. However, it offers great value for its price point).

Nectar mattress performance review
If you are shopping for a memory foam mattress, the Nectar sleep mattress is a strong contender as one of the top memory foam mattress brands. This can be attributed to a lot of things, but I would probably say it comes down to value. When it comes to the Nectar original mattress, it is one of the more affordable memory foam bed-in-a-box mattresses available on the market.
On the other hand, Nectar Lush offers a higher level of luxury, coming in at a higher price point. This mattress has design features targeted directly at side sleepers – nullifying a worry about the Nectar for many side sleepers by being that little bit softer.
Ultimately, there is a lot about both Nectar mattresses that make them a great buy for someone on the market for a memory foam mattress. I believe most small to average-sized people will find the Nectar original a comfortable choice. Petite side sleepers may find it too firm, but this is something addressed in the construction of the Nectar Lush which, in turn, may be too soft for some stomach sleepers.
The performance of both Nectar mattresses is going to come down to you. Weight, sleeping position, and preference are going to be big deciders on whether Nectar is for you. The great thing about Nectar is that their policies remove any hesitation for anyone who has done their research but has a smidgeon of doubt in their minds. With a 365-night sleep trial and a forever warranty, you will have ample chance to decide if this really is everything you hoped.
Construction layers and materials used
The 11-inch Nectar original mattress is very simply put together. It has a breathable Tencal quilted memory foam cover, a layer of gel memory foam, Hi-Core memory foam, and a polyfoam base layer.
The Nectar Lush is designed to be that little bit softer. This 12-inch mattress rests on a dense polyfoam support layer. On top of this is a layer of Energex memory foam, which is one of the components that make the Nectar Lush the more responsive memory foam mattress between the two models. Nectar also markets the Lush as having cooling features; notably the next layer. Above the Energex foam is a layer of memory foam with Aquacool built into the center of the panel (where hips sleep heavy on the mattress). This is topped with a cooling cover.

Nectar mattresses firmness and pressure relief
Let’s start with the Nectar original. Its firmness will depend on your weight, but it is fair to say that it is a medium to medium-firm. If you are a bit on the heavier side, you will find this mattress will likely be a bit softer than this. If you are of medium or small stature, this mattress should meet the alignment and support requirements of back and stomach sleepers. Petite side sleepers may find it a little too firm for their needs.
Similarly, the firmness real feel of the Nectar Lush comes down to weight, but the Lush is definitely a better choice for side sleepers. In terms of firmness, it is a medium to a medium-minus. I think most sleepers will find it a really comfortable memory foam mattress. Side sleepers especially will feel the difference between the original and the Lush on their hips and shoulders. This pressure relief will make all the difference for you.

Sleep position and body type
Both the Nectar and the Nectar Lush are suitable for average and petite sized individuals across all sleeping positions. However, there are certain features exclusive to each which make them better suited to certain positions over others.
Let’s start with your weight. The lighter you are, the firmer this mattress will feel. However, I believe most people will get by without any problem. It is also worth remembering that memory foam mattresses tend to get softer over time. If you are a petite side sleeper or are in particular need of pressure relief when you’re on your side, some may find the Nectar original a little too firm.
The Nectar Lush comes in a little softer on the scale and really is a great choice for side sleepers. Just a quick word on firmness for stomach and back sleepers. I believe most of you will probably find the firmness level you need in the Nectar original. While the Nectar Lush is aimed at pressure relief for side sleepers, this softer profile may affect the support for stomach and back sleepers, who benefit from that bit of additional firmness for alignment.
Weight also affects how you sleep on the mattress. Nectar mattresses have that real body contouring feeling typical to memory foam. While the Nectar Lush is a little more responsive, both mattresses have this feature – which can be viewed as a pro or a con depending on your preferences. If you prefer to sleep on top of your mattress, this is worth thinking about. If you sleep hot and are a little heavier, sleeping “in” your mattress will also make a difference to temperature. If this is a worry, opting for the firmer Nectar original also makes better sense, although you may prefer a firm mattress without all the contouring.
Nectar mattress edge support
Both the Nectar and the Nectar Lush provide very good edge support, as most all-foam mattresses tend to do. This means couples can sleep right up to the edge of the bed comfortably and without that rolling feeling that comes with poor edge support. It also means that, even in smaller sized models, more of the surface area of the bed is available to couples.
Nectar mattress temperature regulation
Memory foam mattresses are hardly known for being cool mattresses, but both the Nectar Mattress and the Nectar Lush are temperature neutral and very comfortable for most sleepers. Again, to a point, this will come down to you. If you are slightly heavier, you can expect to sleep deeper in these mattresses, rather than on top of them. This is not ideal for someone who sleeps hot.
The Nectar Mattress performs really well considering it is an all-foam mattress. I think this primarily comes down to the firmness of the mattress, but the gel memory foam and cooling cover will also play a role in this.
The Nectar Lush has a few additional features to enhance cooling. This includes a dual action cooling cover and Aquacool built into the gel memory foam layer. This panel is in the center of the layer – under the hips and thighs, which is where we sleep heavily and hotter. While I can’t confirm the level of cooling efficacy here, I can say that the cooling cover is tangibly cool to the touch and that neither of these mattresses are hot. They are both temperature neutral, which will be spot-on for anyone who doesn’t sleep hot.

Motion isolation and noise
Both the Nectar Mattress and the Nectar Lush are great mattresses when it comes to motion isolation. If your partner is a restless sleeper or gets up a lot during the night – or if you are a particularly light sleeper – these memory foam mattresses may well hold the solution, giving you an undisturbed night’s sleep.
Both mattresses are also incredibly quiet. I didn’t notice any sound on either and they perform remarkably well on this front too.
Is Nectar suitable for couples and sex?
The suitability of Nectar mattresses to couples comes down to what you are looking for in a mattress. They perform really well on some fronts while, on others, some couples may find them lacking.
Firstly, as mentioned above, if you are sharing a bed, both the Nectar Mattress and the Nectar Lush are highly effective at deadening motion. This means your sleep won’t be disrupted should your partner have a bad night or if you are a light sleeper. They are also almost completely noiseless, which is great for giving your partner a good night’s sleep and to be discreet during sex.
Both mattresses also provide very good edge support for memory foam mattresses. This means couples get more usable surface area of the mattress for both sleep and sex without that potential falling feeling you can sometimes get on the perimeter of beds with poor edge support.
The slow responsiveness of memory foam could be viewed as an impediment to some couples during sex. It can make changing position slightly more laborious. You do sink into these mattresses and so some couples may struggle. Of the two models, the Nectar original is also quite firm. The Nectar Lush does offer slightly more bounce and responsiveness, but I think the experience across both will be quite similar when it comes to responsiveness for sex.
Durability and longevity
The quality of the materials used in both the Nectar Mattress and Nectar Lush make it a long-lasting mattress. If you look at the average expected lifespan of a mattress, it is reasonable to expect these mattresses to last around seven years. Obviously, the lighter you are and the more care you show to your mattress, the longer it will last. That said, memory foam is not impervious to wear and tear.
It’s impossible to ignore the sleep trial and forever warranty here too. These kinds of company policies usually show a company’s attitude to quality. That makes Nectar stand out for offering some of the best terms to their customers.
Nectar says that their mattresses are compatible with all bed frames and foundations.

Nectar mattress complaints
Nectar mattresses have more positive reviews than negative reviews. Customer complaints online include the following:
- The main complaint encountered online comes down to troubles with returns. My advice, as always, is to be completely au fait with the returns policy attached to every mattress you buy to avoid unpleasant surprises.
- Another complaint I came across a couple of times was around delivery delays. It is worth noting the estimated delivery turnaround times and terms when placing your order.
- Some customers reported experiencing pain they attributed to the firmness of the bed and complained that the mattress slept quite hot. Ultimately, I think this is an unavoidable question of preference.
Our final verdict: Do we recommend the Nectar mattress brand?
If you are looking for a memory foam bed-in-a-box mattress, I would be remiss not to recommend the Nectar Mattress. For the price you pay, you simply won’t find an all-foam mattress that offers quite the same level of value. I also believe that most people in the petite to average size categories will be really satisfied with their choice. If you are shopping for memory foam, Nectar will definitely be amongst your final selection – and so it should be.
If you aren’t shopping on the same budget and you are a side sleeper, it is worth looking at the Nectar Lush – to give you the pressure relief and that bit of extra softness right from the start. That said, I can imagine many side sleepers enjoying the Nectar original over time too. No matter where you are in the buying process, don’t ignore weight and sleeping position factors when thinking about the Nectar mattresses.
Nectar mattresses are made in China to Nectar’s high quality standards. They are also based around the world, with U.S. headquarters.
Nectar mattresses are made from high-quality, durable materials. The possibility of sag cannot be discounted in every instance, but this comes down to a range of different factors. The more lightweight you are – and if you care for your mattress – you should get up to eight years of use out of your Nectar Mattress, which is the average lifespan of most mattresses.
The offering from Nectar and Casper is quite different. If you are looking for that classic memory foam feeling, Nectar will probably be more up your alley. Casper has a polyurethane foam layer on top to give it a more responsive sensation. While it doesn’t hug the body in quite the same way as the Nectar, it offers very good pressure relief and support for people in all sleeping positions. The Casper is priced a little higher than the Nectar – and both mattresses are on par when it comes to value.
The Nectar mattress is available online at nectarsleeps.com and on Amazon. Nectar mattresses are also available through different independent mattress retailers in the United States.
