Shipping:  WinkBeds mattresses are compressed and shipped FREE to your home in a 20″ x 20″ x 44″ box, delivered by UPS to customers inside the contiguous United States. Every WinkBeds mattress is made to order, so allow up to a fortnight for your mattress to arrive.

Old mattress removal:  WinkBeds offer a Room of Choice premium delivery service through their home delivery agent. Customers can select an option that includes removing and disposing of your old mattress, as well as installing and setting up your new one. Your old mattress is either recycled or donated to a local charity. The cost for combining this white glove delivery service with mattress removal is $189. This service will not include the removal or disassembly of a bed frame or any other piece of furniture.

Payment accepted, financing:  WinkBeds accept most bank cards and offer financing and a lease to own option through partner agencies. Bread is a finance platform letting customers pay for their goods over time. Customers submit an online application to determine if they pre-qualify and once approved can select to pay in monthly installments (from 3 months up to 48 monthly payments). Alternatively, they can Split Pay, dividing the total cost into 4 equal interest free payments https://www.getbread.com/. There is also a lease to own option with Katapult (formerly Zibby) https://katapult.com/ . Customers apply in-store or at home and once approved can choose flexible pay-over-time options.

Returns and refund:  WinkBeds offer free return collections for customers who want to return their mattress inside the sleep trial. Once returned, WinkBeds issue customers with a full refund. Only 1 return is allowed, limited to one mattress per customer and household shipping address. If you exchange one mattress for another, you’ll receive a reduced 60 night trial on the second mattress. WinkBeds also offers a Lifetime 50% Off Comfort Replacement Option, this lets customers buy a new WinkBeds mattress for 50% of its current selling price, once the sleep trial period has expired on their original mattress. This is for customers who may want a softer or firmer mattress or who want to replace their original mattress after a few years.

Sleep trial period:  As a Bed-in-a-Box retailer, customers get a risk free sleep trial, letting you sleep on the mattresses at home for up to 4 months (120 nights). WinkBeds ask customers to sleep on the mattress for a minimum of 30 nights, so your body has time to adjust. If, after this time, you still want to return the mattress WinkBeds will coordinate a free returns collection with you.

Warranties:  WinkBeds offer a non-transferable Lifetime Limited Warranty for the entirety of the original owner’s ownership. This covers their mattresses against material defects, indentations or sagging more than 1.5”, and not caused by an improper foundation or bed base. Any flaw in the mattress that’s a manufacturing defect, causing the foam or springs to degrade, split or crack. Any manufacturing defect of the Mattress Cover. In instances where an agreed defect occurs, WinkBeds replace your defective mattress with the same model and size, free of charge. Photo evidence of your defect is requested prior to returning the item. Customers are asked to pay the shipping costs for returning your mattress, and if WinkBeds agree a defect exists they will reimburse transportation costs.

Packaging and unpacking:  All WinkBeds mattresses are shipped in a 20″ x 20″ x 44″ box, delivered by UPS. If you are setting up your mattress, two people are needed to lift the box. Always unbox the mattress in the bedroom you plan to use it, as once unpacked it is tricky to move and doesn’t have handles. Position the mattress over your bed base, remove the packaging, unroll and watch it expand into shape. You can sleep on your mattress the same day it is unboxed. WinkBeds also offers a Room of Choice premium delivery service, delivering your mattress up to your bedroom, unboxing the set and installing the mattress on top of your existing platform or bed frame and this service costs $129.

Smell (off gassing), harmful chemicals:  It’s likely that when you unwrap your WinkBeds mattress you’ll experience an initial odor. Off-gassing is what happens when chemicals called VOCs, (which are a byproduct of foam manufacturing) are released into the atmosphere after unboxing and opening. This ‘off-gassing’ odor is common with foam mattresses. Once you fully ventilate your bedroom, the odor will dissipate and should disappear altogether within 24 to 48 hours.

Where are the mattresses made?  Each WinkBeds mattress is hand-made to order at their Watertown, Wisconsin factory. They are made using high grade, USA sourced materials. If you like to buy all-American, WinkBeds is a USA brand through and through.

WinkBeds mattress measurements and pricing

The handcrafted quality and the integrity of their premium, durable materials impacts upon WinkBeds pricing. Typically, WinkBeds mattresses cost a few hundred dollars more than competitors such as Saatva, but WinkBeds regular online coupons let consumers halve this difference. WinkBeds pricing is more directly comparable with brands like Purple and Avocado. The prices listed below are the current MSRP at the time of writing.

WinkBeds mattress performance review

If you’re seeking a luxury, hefty mattress for a range of sleeper types and body sizes, that’ll allow you that luxury hotel sleep experience without the luxury price tag, then WinkBeds is worth your consideration. The WinkBed is the brand’s original one mattress suits all, best-selling, multi-award winning hybrid model. This model was followed up by their premium, next generation all-foam mattress, The Memory Lux. Their eco-friendly latex over coils all-natural hybrid, The EcoCloud launched in 2019. WinkBeds mattresses look impressive, are durable and come in a range of firmness options, and their Lifetime warranty inspires consumer confidence.

Construction layers and materials used

WinkBeds all-American mattresses are tailor-made, fusing skilled craftsmanship with advanced sleep tech and proprietary fabrics. Each model combines trademarked technology, like their 5 zoned innerspring and 3-Step Back Relief System™ which relaxes muscles and aligns joints, and works in conjunction with their Lumbar Layerto encourage better spinal alignment. While their Triple layer heat dispersetech has Hypersoft and gel infused foams to wick away heat from the upper layers. The Extra-EdgeAnti-Sag Support system advances the overall edge support of the mattress and counteracts any upper foam sagging. All the materials used for these mattresses are high-grade, durable and responsibly sourced.

The WinkBed

This multi-award winning 14.5” coil on coil, six layer hybrid mixes premium foam comfort with body-hugging support. Its upper cover and comfort layer fuses breathable, eucalyptus derived TENCEL™ lyocell with organic cotton, creating a soft, silky surface for its tufted pillow top. Inside its two-tiered comfort layer, there is 1” of Hypersoft PCF foam and a premium gel-infused foam too. Underneath sits micro air spring coils and then a ¾Lumbar Layerof pre-compressed densified cotton to reduce lower back strain, increase pressure relief and separate its dual coil layers. The 5th layer is the main supportive core with 7.5” polyfoam-encased pocketed steel coils. The 2” base layer comprises 1.5 PCF foam. This WinkBed mattress features the Extra-EdgeAnti-Sag support with reinforced foam encased supportive coils around the perimeter to maximize edge support

Customers can choose from The WinkBed’s four firmness options: Soft; Luxury Firm; Firmer, and Plus. The WinkBed Plus model is specifically for heavier-built sleepers (300lbs and over).

The Memory Lux

This 12” all-foam, triple-layered mattress has a TENCEL™ and memory/gel infused foam cover creating a luxurious, soft, natural, breathable, pillow-topped feel. Its patented AirCell™ Memory Foam has thousands of shock-absorbing micro air pockets which recall your body shape and provide pressure relief. They also eliminate heat build-up and motion transfer. The second foam layer is made from Zoned Progression Foam™ with 5 targeted zones, giving sleepers optimal spinal alignment and firm support around your hips and lumbar region, with softer cushioning by your head, shoulders and feet. Its foam base layer consists of 4” of Atlas Support Foam™, a high density, durable foam supporting the entire mattress. The Memory Lux model comes in three firmness options: Medium-Soft, Medium or Firm.

The EcoCloud

Released in the summer of 2019, this luxurious, responsive, 13” latex over coils hybrid, is fully green, made from 100% natural bedding materials. WinkBeds firmness and pressure relief

Our sleep reviewers feedback depends on their height to weight ratio. Heavier sleepers will rate the same mattress as softer than their slimmer bed partners simply because their heavier body mass lets them sink deeper into the mattress to experience more comfort, cushioning and support. Whereas, petite sleepers often sleep up top more and will consider the same mattress as a lot firmer. WinkBed’s luxury range of mattresses do offer multiple firmness options and collectively, these sturdy, solid mattresses can accommodate a range of sleeper types and body sizes.

The WinkBed

The original and bestselling The WinkBed mattress comes in 4 firmness options: Soft, Luxury Firm, Firmer and The WinkBed Plus (for heavyweight sleepers up to and over 300 lbs). Our teams assessed The WinkBed Luxury Firm, ranking it as a Medium with a neutral, overall innerspring feel. Their Luxury Firm or Firm model will suit back, front and combination sleepers and strict side sleepers will want a softer model for more cradling and pressure relief.

The Memory Lux

This all-foam mattress comes in Soft, Medium and Firm. Our teams tested the Medium firm version. Its gel-infused memory foam upper layer is airy and breathable, creating a soft, neutral pillow topped feel that’s boosted by the comfort layer’s AirCell™ Memory Foam and Zoned Progression Foam™ layer which softens the firmness of the 4” High-Density Atlas Support Foam™ in its base. Our testers rated this model as a true medium – ideal for Side, Back, Combination and Stomach sleepers.

The EcoCloud

This all-natural, eco-friendly Medium firm mattress comes in one firmness option and has a simple construction. Because its natural latex layers conform more generally around your body mass, sleepers experience general support instead of that deep sink, suiting side sleepers or combination sleepers. Back sleepers will like having their weight being evenly distributed by the base coils, keeping users supported across the top of the mattress. Strict stomach sleepers will need a firmer mattress

Sleep position and body type

Hybrid mattresses suit heavier customers who need the contour, cradle and pressure relief of foams but need the added security of a strong, supportive core to manage overall weight distribution and help with spinal alignment. All-foam mattresses are best suited to light to middle-weight customers who seek the pressure relief, comfort, deep hug and sink of memory foam.

The WinkBed

With thick comfort layers, dual coiled support and a Lumbar Layer™all working collectively to alleviate lower back pain, this 14.5” mattress suits a range of sleeper types and body sizes. Sleepers experience innerspring bounce, comfort, pressure relief and spinal support with their weight distributed evenly by the coils, helping them to sleep across the mattress instead of just sinking into it. Softer models have better pressure relief and cradling for Side and Combination sleepers.

Back and Stomach sleepers will need a firmer model to avoid their heavier trunk and hips from sinking in too much, which could impair spinal alignment and exacerbate aches and pains. Because the mattress has coils in its base and comfort layer, it is super supportive and can easily manage sleepers weighing up to 250lbs. The WinkBed Plus model is especially for heavier built sleepers weighing up to 300lbs and over.

The Memory Lux

This all-foam mattress’s Zoned Progression Foam™ impacts the overall firmness, with its firmer center section for your lumbar region and softer comfort and cushioning near your head, shoulders and feet. The comfort layer features a slow response, gel-infused memory foam which alleviates pressure build up around your hips and shoulders, making it ideal for Side and Combination sleepers craving that tension relieving deep sink, while Back sleepers will get support across their lumbar and hip region.

Combination sleepers can easily switch positions without experiencing too much resistance. Also, the AirCell™ foam in the comfort layer is more breathable than traditional memory foams, so sleeps cooler and won’t retain the same level of body heat, working for hot sleepers too. Because it is an all-foam mattress, we would recommend it for petite to medium size body frames (people weighing up to 220lbs).

The Eco Cloud

This premium, soft, organic hybrid mattress uses natural, weightless, conforming Talalay latex over a zoned coil support system to give sleepers advanced pressure relief and targeted push-back support for your back and joints. This quick response, natural Talalay latex works with the supportive base coils, providing an even and stable support across the entirety of the mattress; ideal for Back, Side, Combination and even Edge sleepers. Also, because this latex over coil hybrid offers great bounce, strength and durability, it can accommodate all body sizes, lightweight and middle-weight, up to heavyweight sleepers (up to 250lbs).

WinkBeds edge support

Both The WinkBed and The EcoCloud hybrids feature the ExtraEdge™ AntiSag Support coils – an advanced, proprietary edge support system. This supportive innerspring system uses higher gauge firmer coils along the perimeter edges to prevent sagging and maximize edge support, making the sides of the mattress more stable. Feedback from our sleep team, from our petite and medium size team members up to our heavier team players, (weighing over 250lbs) was that they felt supported getting in and out of these hybrids and felt secure when pushed close to the edges too and didn’t experience any roll-off sensation.

So, sleepers using the hybrid models can rest easily and utilize the entire sleep surface. The MemoryLux all-foam model does not use this edge support system and as its foam is responsive and compresses more easily, sleepers near the edge will feel more unstable. If you are an edge sleeper or someone who likes to use the full entirety of their mattress, our team suggests choosing one of the hybrid models.

Winkbed Temperature regulation

Because pocketed coils allow a greater level of air to circulate inside the mattress, hybrids will sleep cooler than all-foam models. Another benefit of hybrids is that sleepers stay on top of the bed more, rather than sinking too deep into it, which reduces heat retention. Yet, even WinkBeds all-foam model, The Memory Lux slept cooler than many of its memory foam competitors. Overall, our sleep testers gave each WinkBeds mattresses a thumbs up for neutralizing temperature.

The WinkBed

As a dual coil on coil hybrid, The WinkBed combines supportive base coils with micro air coils in its comfort layer – so benefits from circulating air through the top and bottom sections of the mattress. Also, by cleverly pairing the breathable TENCEL® cover & gel-infused foam this Triple-Layer HeatDisperse™ material wicks away moisture and sleeps 30% cooler than linen.

The Memory Lux

Although this is an all-foam mattress, its advanced foams ensure The Memory Lux sleeps cool. The proprietary AirCell™ foam in its comfort layers retains zero heat and supports the breathable Tencel lyocell upper cover.

The EcoCloud

The materials in this all-natural hybrid include a breathable outer cotton cover quilted with New Zealand wool, to effectively wick away heat and moisture in the upper layers. The Talalay natural latex in the comfort layers is breathable and has an open-celled structure, which works with the base coils increasing air flow.

Motion isolation and noise

When sharing a bed, we want our mattress to stop movement traveling across to avoid disturbances each time our partner twists, turns or gets in or out. Many consumers know all-foam mattresses deaden motion and absorb movement better than innerspring or hybrid models. So, as you’d expect, The Memory Lux all-foam model came top out of all 3 mattresses in these categories of tests.

The WinkBed

The WinkBed mattress’s dual coil system has micro coils inside its comfort layers and stronger supportive coils in the base. Because the coils are pocketed, flexing responsively and independently, their motion isolation capacity is better than your average hybrid. Our sleep testers found motion was limited to the immediate area of disturbance, yet was still noticeable. Testing for noise, because it’s a dual coiled hybrid you will hear the coils flexing and responding to pressure, this isn’t excessively loud, but can be heard.

The Memory Lux

The thick layers of deep, pressure relieving memory foam in this all-foam model give sleepers excellent contouring and cradling, and its minimal bounce means movement won’t travel across the mattress. The Memory Lux does an excellent job of absorbing movement, preventing disturbances from reverberating across the bed. When testing for noise, because it’s an all-foam model the mattress is completely silent. A big thumbs up on both counts!

The EcoCloud

Because this organic hybrid’s comfort layers use naturally bouncy and responsive Talalay latex, it conforms to pressure and limits movement to its specific region well, although it won’t deaden movement as effectively as memory foam. The coils are individually wrapped, moving independently, working to limit motion transfer. Although, latex is inherently bouncy and so are springs. Our sleep testers rated it as OK for limiting motion transfer, better than some other hybrids on the market. Testing against noise, as it’s a latex/coil hybrid you will hear the coils pushing and flexing responsively to pressure from above, this was noticeable but wasn’t at a level that would keep sleepers awake.

Are WinkBeds mattresses suitable for couples and sex?

With their soft, cooling, plush, pillowed top and supportive coil components, The WinkBed and The EcoCloud hybrids are substantial, responsive mattresses, offering great overall bounce. Plus, the reinforced ExtraEdge™ AntiSag Support system makes them ideal for couples for sex and sleep, as users can easily move around on top, switching positions without any resistance or deep sink. Plus, the pocketed coils and reinforced perimeter system supports sleepers across the entire mattress surface, letting you confidently utilize the whole bed space.

The all-foam Memory Lux model gives great pressure relief, response and comfort and is silent and discrete, but lacks the bounce of springs and so is our least recommended for sex, as couples wont be able to move around as freely on the upper surface. Although remember that physical activity on top of a hybrid will be heard, as the springs respond and flex to manage pressure and weight distribution.

Durability and longevity

Because WinkBeds only started out in 2015, measuring long-term durability and potential for wear and tear in their mattresses is tricky. The WinkBed and The EcoCloud hybrids comprise of highly durable components: The WinkBed uses 14.5 – 16 gauge base coils to support its medium-density polyfoam comfort layers. The EcoCloud’s comfort layers use natural, hard-wearing Talalay latex over reinforced pocketed steel coils, and feature zoned support in both the foam comfort and coil layers. We’d anticipate a lifespan of up to 10 years with either model.

Hybrid mattresses usually outlive all-foam ones because the foam /coil combo manages weight distribution better and helps eliminate sagging from the upper comfort layers. Yet, WinkBeds claim the Atlas Support Foam™ they engineered for the base of The Memory Lux mattress overcomes sagging. Consumer Reports rank the original WinkBed as Excellent for durability. Online customer feedback has a mix of positive and negative comments, mostly about The WinkBed model. Many customers highly recommended these mattresses, but others raised issues with indentations and sagging and some complained of springs not flexing back into place causing them discomfort. Nonetheless, the retailer’s confidence in their merchandise grants customers a lifetime warranty against materials and craftsmanship.

Bed base

WinkBeds suggest customers pair their mattresses with their platform foundation sold in stores and online. This platform foundation measures 15″ in height with legs, or 7.5″ without, and can be used with or without an existing bed frame. It is shipped via UPS and easily assembled without tools. Buying a foundation or platform isn’t essential, but it may help your mattress stay in good condition for longer. If you plan on reusing an existing bed foundation, remember old BoxSprings or foundations can get misshapen over time, or may lack sufficient support and if you use an unsuitable bed base with your mattress it may invalidate its warranty. However, if you own a sturdy BoxSpring that doesn’t sag and is rigid, this will be perfect. WinkBeds mattresses are also compatible with Adjustable Bed bases and Slatted bed frames, just as long as this bed base has a rigid center support.

WinkBeds mattress complaints

Scrutinizing online customer review sites for consumer feedback, we found positive customer feedback far outweighed criticisms and bad reviews and rated around 4/1 in favour. Some common issues among negative feedback concerned sagging and indentations, along with customer service issues and the general returns process.

  • A complaint of sagging and uneven wear from a customer after 2 years of sleeping on The WinkBed where 1” indentations formed, causing her and her partner back pain. Because the indentations were below 1.5” WinkBeds don’t replace and urged the customer to buy another mattress at a 50% reduced rate
  • A customer complained of a bad chemical smell and a high level of off-gassing with her mattress lasting for over a month.
  • A customer complained about WinkBeds customer service, stating they were misinformed when buying two mattresses on the advice they could return both inside the sleep trial and get their money back. After trialing, the customer wanted to return both mattresses, but was informed he could only return 1 and must keep the other.

Our final verdict: Do we recommend the WinkBeds mattress brand?

FAQ

Are WinkBeds any good?

Our sleep testers were impressed after trialing and scrutinizing WinkBeds mattresses. These luxury, quality, hand-crafted models are a cut above many other Bed-in-a-Box mattresses out there in the marketplace. Their solid, dependable construction and high-grade materials create a brand of impressive, durable mattresses. But you do get what you pay for and WinkBeds are a good couple of hundred dollars more expensive when comparing pricing against similar competitors, which may be unachievable for some customers.

How much do WinkBeds cost?

Let's get this clear, WinkBeds mattresses aren't the cheapest on the market. But the brand has established a niche in the e-mattress space, selling high-spec, quality, handcrafted, made to order mattresses using responsibly sourced, premium grade materials. Testing out each WinkBeds model, our team believes the price reflects the quality of the product. Their most popular seller remains The WinkBed, and a Queen Size Luxury Firm model costs $1,599, which is the same as a Queen Size model of The Memory Lux, all-foam mattress. Their EcoCloud hybrid is the most expensive and as you'd expect, using all-natural and organic materials comes at a cost, with a Queen size retailing at $1,799. These prices are the MSRP at the time of writing and are before online discounts.

Where can you buy the WinkBed mattresses?

Is WinkBed better than Saatva?

The WinkBed and Saatva flagship models are both durable, luxury, high-end, accommodating mattresses for all sleeper types and body shapes, matching like for like. Saatva and WinkBeds ship free and offer a 120 Night Sleep Trial. WinkBeds provides a free returns collection, Saatva charges a $99 transportation fee. WinkBeds Lifetime warranty far exceeds the 15-year Saatva warranty. Both Saatva and WinkBeds mattresses feature dual coil layers, maximizing their support. WinkBeds uses pocketed coils and micro coils, Saatva has innersprings and pocketed coils. The upper surface of both mattresses are tufted, pillow topped, soft and comforting. WinkBeds cover fuses breathable Tencel fibers, whereas Saatva's has organic cotton. Both mattress brands come in 3 firmness options, essentially, soft, medium and firm and both brands also offer a model for heavyweight sleepers, 300 lbs and over, The WinkBeds Plus and the Saatva HD. Looking at prices Saatva models retail at around $300 to $400 cheaper than WinkBeds, but online WinkBeds coupons help customers half this price difference. Saatva does not offer online coupons. So, do you want to pay more for The WinkBed and have the security of a Lifetime warranty and free returns? Or, buy the cheaper Saatva mattress? We give up and would happily sleep on either!
