Who are Nest Bedding mattresses for?

  • If you are looking for consumer-focused company policies. The lifetime warranty on all Nest Bedding beds, as well as their comfort guarantee are a couple of policies which are a sign of a company with true faith in their product.
  • If you want a premium mattress at an affordable price. Both the all-foam Alexander Signature Select (also know as Alexander Signature Series) and Alexander Hybrid ooze luxury at an almost surprisingly reasonable price.
  • All sleeping positions and all weight categories. If you are very petite, large, or somewhere in between, there are different options available for you between the Alexander Signature Select and Alexander Hybrid mattresses.
  • Couples. While the medium Alexander Hybrid mattress is a snug fit for most people, the added option of a split firmness means even couples with very different sleeping preferences get the bed of their dreams (Nest Bedding Alexander Hybrid).
  • If you like the feel of a neutral foam bed (Nest Bedding Alexander Signature Select).
  • If you want a soft, cushiony, pillowtop mattress (Nest Bedding Alexander Hybrid).
  • If you want options. The Alexander Signature Select has two comfort options in one mattress. Flip between the Luxury Firm and Medium sides of the mattress to find the firmness that’s right for you (right at home). The Alexander Hybrid comes in three firmness levels which, between the three, cater for all sleeper preferences and body types. And, of course, you can choose to incorporate the split firmness to build the perfect bed for couples.

Who won’t love Nest Bedding mattresses?

  • If you love the feeling of traditional, melting memory foam.
  • If you are shopping for the cheapest bed possible.
  • If you migrate to the edge of the bed during the night, the edge support on the Alexander Signature Select is not the best we have seen.

Nest Bedding company policy

Nest Bedding is an American family business which was founded in 2011. While they were one of the first online bed-in-a-box mattress brands, they have kept to their roots over the course of their nearly decade-long history. Compared to larger corporates, their relatively small team is invested in great customer service, an excellent product, and a model predicated on quality and affordability.

They have also incorporated a range of organic and natural mattresses and bedding options for the eco-minded shopper. There is a deep-seated environmental and sustainable outlook evident in both their thinking and the construction of their mattresses. The zipper-accessible comfort layer on the hybrid model is easily interchangeable, for instance, which is aimed at reducing mattress waste sent to landfills.

They have a number of bricks and mortar stores around the U.S. All foams are made in the USA and are CertiPUR-US certified. The flame retardant is a non-chemical hydrogenated silica. They have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.

Shipping:  Nest Bedding provides free shipping within the contiguous U.S. and has paid shipping options for worldwide orders. They can arrange expedited shipping on request, but don’t believe this will be necessary. Your mattress will be readied for dispatch over a period of between one and three business days. While shipping times may vary, they say to expect your mattress to arrive between four and eight business days later.

Old mattress removal:  White glove delivery and old mattress removal are available as an option.

Payment accepted, financing:  If you are shopping from Nest Bedding online, there are a range of payment options available. This includes American Express, Apple Pay, Diners Club, Discover, JCB, Mastercard, PayPal, and VISA. They also offer financing through Affirm. You will get an instant loan decision at checkout.

Returns and refund:  Nest Bedding offers free returns and exchanges within the sleep trial period.

Sleep trial period:  Nest Bedding offers a 100-night trial.

Warranties:  Nest Bedding gives you an astounding lifetime warranty with all of their mattresses. They also give you a lifetime comfort guarantee. This means, after your sleep trial has expired, if you aren’t happy with the comfort of your mattress, you can get one of their mattresses for 30% off – even years later.

Packaging and unpacking:  The Nest Bedding Alexander Signature Select and Alexander Signature Hybrid are both bed-in-a-box mattresses. This means they are compressed, rolled, wrapped in plastic, and boxed. Unboxing isn’t complicated and most people will get their beds unpacked and set up in no time. For those worried about the unboxing process and old mattress removal, white glove delivery is available to take the hassle out of getting you started with your new mattress.

Smell (off gassing), harmful chemicals:  Off-gassing is the smell emitted from the foams in mattresses and this is commonplace in bed-in-a-box mattresses where the materials are compressed for some time. In both the Alexander Signature Select and Alexander Hybrid Signature Select, we picked up on slight off-gassing. However, this is somewhat reduced when compared to other mattresses on the market. During the manufacturing process, Nest Bedding airs their mattresses before shipping which may have something to do with the reduced off-gassing from their mattresses. These mattresses have a pleasant odor and any smell you pick up on should disappear within 24 hours. All foams have also been tested and certified to be free of harmful chemicals, so there’s no need to worry around the smell.

Where are the mattresses made?  Nest Bedding mattresses are proudly made in the U.S.A.

Nest Bedding mattress performance

If you are shopping for a new mattress, you have probably begun to realize how similar many mattress brands can be. If you appreciate something a little different, brands that push the envelope without losing touch with their roots, Nest Bedding is a great company for both their premium mattresses – and their ethos.

In this Nest Bedding mattress review, we are looking specifically at the all-foam Alexander Signature Select Mattress and the Alexander Signature Hybrid. What we love about these mattresses comes down to flexibility. The Alexander Signature Select is flippable, with two comfort options depending on the side you pick. Between the two sides, there’s something for all sleeping preferences.

If you are looking for a people pleaser, the Alexander Signature Hybrid is one of the most comfortable and accommodating mattresses on the market. The mattress is available in three firmness levels and Nest Bedding claims that 92% of sleepers will love the medium option. If you want something plush and your partner needs to sleep on a very firm surface for support, never fear. Nest Bedding has a split option – because no-one should have to compromise around the comfort of their new bed.

Construction layers and materials used

Nest Bedding Alexander Signature SELECT Mattress

This flippable mattress has comfort layers on both the ‘top’ and the ‘bottom’ of the mattress depending on whether you go with the Medium or Luxury Firm sides of the bed. This means two beds in one, which is a fantastic feature if you’re not quite sure or if you’re hedging around your mattress getting softer over time. At the ‘top’ (if you are in Medium mode) is a one-inch organic cotton quilted cover, two inches of gel memory foam, two inches of transitional foam, and seven inches of Luxury Firm Base Foam. Another one-inch quilted organic cotton cover lies ‘under’ this layer for all the benefits of natural breathability no matter which side you choose.

Nest Bedding Alexander Signature Hybrid Mattress

An outstanding feature of the Alexander Signature Hybrid is its lush pillowtop feel. The top layer is 0.1 inch of quilted thermic phase change material and 0.4 inches of luxury gel-infused memory foam. Under this is three inches of TitanChill Endurance Foam and one inch of support foam, which separates the comfort layers from the eight-inch individually-pocketed coils. The whole bed rests on one inch of base support foam.

Nest Bedding mattress firmness

Between the two firmness options of the Alexander Signature Select Mattress and the three firmness options of the Alexander Signature Hybrid, you are looking at almost the full spectrum of firmness levels on offer from Nest Bedding. As always, your weight and sleeping preference will often dictate the firmness experienced, but this is how most people will experience the firmness of these mattresses.

The Alexander Signature Select is flippable, giving you the ability to flip the mattress to choose the firmness level you prefer. The one side is Medium (between a medium and medium-firm when it comes to true firmness) – a good choice for all sleepers. The Luxury Firm side is between a medium-firm and firm, giving great support and spinal alignment for back and stomach sleepers.

The Alexander Signature Hybrid comes in three firmness options. The Plush is soft – a great fit for side sleepers and anyone who wants the comfort and pressure relief of just a soft mattress. The Medium is more of a medium-minus, with loads of pressure relief for side sleepers with enough support to cater for those combination sleepers. The Luxury Firm is about a medium-firm – and is set to be a firm favorite with anyone looking for support from a harder mattress.

Sleep position, pressure relief and body type

There’s something for everyone in the Nest mattress range. Some universal rules apply. For instance, if you are in a heavy weight category, the hybrid model will be the more durable option for you. You should also bear in mind that all mattresses will feel that little bit softer to you. Petite people and petite side sleepers in particular experience mattresses to be a bit harder, which makes pressure relief a critical consideration in any mattress search.

The pressure relief on offer from these mattresses is very impressive across the medium and plush models. The more responsive memory foam in the all-foam Alexander Signature Select gives just the right amount of cushioning, while the plush and medium options of the hybrid mattress are ultra pressure relieving for hips and shoulders.

Back sleepers

Back sleepers ideally need a firmer mattress for support. If you are a strict back sleeper, the Luxury Firm side of the Alexander Signature Select Mattress will be a good fit for you. If you opt to sleep on the Medium side of the mattress, most back sleepers shouldn’t have a problem with support. Similarly, most back sleepers will be extremely comfortable on the Medium model of the hybrid. However, if you have special requirements for support in this position, the Luxury Firm will be the better choice.

Side sleepers

If you are a side sleeper, there are a few options available to you between these two mattresses. The Medium side of the Alexander Signature Select Mattress will be the better choice between the two sides (bearing in mind that the mattress will soften over time). If you are a petite side sleeper or anyone who needs a lot of pressure relief, the Plush model of the Alexander Signature Hybrid is very soft on the shoulders and hips. Side and combination sleepers will be equally accommodated on the Medium.

Stomach sleepers

Stomach sleepers, like back sleepers, benefit from extra firmness for support. On your stomach, your hips dip into the mattress materials because of weight and gravity and this can cause pain when the spine is out of alignment. The Luxury Firm side of the Alexander Signature Select Mattress is the better of the two firmness options for stomach sleepers (while most stomach sleepers in the average weight bracket will be fine on their stomachs on the Medium side too). The Luxury Firm hybrid model will also be the best choice for strict stomach sleepers if you prefer the Alexander Signature Hybrid model, while the Medium will be comfortable for most stomach sleepers.

Combination sleepers

Sticking to the middle firmness levels is always a good idea for combination sleepers. The Alexander Signature Hybrid in Medium is a fantastic option for combination sleepers – particularly if you are a combination side sleeper. The Medium side of the Alexander Signature Select mattress will also be an accommodating feel for combination sleepers across all preferences.

Heavy sleepers

While the Alexander Select Mattress is unquestionably a high-quality mattress, we always recommend hybrid models over all-foam mattresses for heavier people. If you are convinced that you want the all-foam model, the Luxury Firm side may well be the better option for you. Unless you want a really soft mattress, the Medium or Luxury Firm models of the Alexander Signature Hybrid will also be a better fit if you weigh in a little higher.

Petite sleepers

If you are petite, unless you have specific needs around support on your back and stomach, we would caution you against the Luxury Firm models. The top option out of all the mattresses here will be the Plush model of the Alexander Signature Hybrid – especially if you sleep on your side. The Medium firmness options across both models will also work well for most people in a petite weight category.

Nest Bedding edge support

Edge support matters if you sleep on the edge of the bed at night – or if you are a couple with limited space in a smaller bed. The edge support on the all-foam Alexander Signature Select is probably a little below average in comparison with some other all-foam mattresses we have tried. In the hybrid model, this is far better, with a lot less of that rolling feeling when you hit the perimeter of the bed or when you sit on the side.

Nest Bedding mattress temperature regulation

Most people won’t heat up at night on the Alexander Signature Select and the Alexander Signature Hybrid. Both models are completely neutral when it comes to temperature and should work for you unless you are a hot sleeper looking for active cooling properties.

A few different factors have a role to play here. The hybrid model is going to be the better of the two as a general rule because the overall ventilation will be better between the coils. This is helped along by the phase change cover and gel-infused foam, which assists in moving heat away from the body. On the all-foam Alexander Signature Select, the organic cotton cover helps with breathability and the gel foam, again, helps to conduct heat.

A range of elements need to be examined when it comes to sleep temperature. When it comes to the mattress itself, sleeping on a firmer bed can help as less of the mattress materials come into contact with the skin which can have a heating effect.

Motion isolation and noise

The motion isolation performance of the Alexander Signature Select will depend on the firmness level you choose. The Medium side performs slightly better than the Luxury Firm at isolating motion. Unless you are an especially light sleeper, motion transfer shouldn’t trouble you during the night. We also did not pick up on any sound from the mattress when moving on the bed.

The motion isolation of the Alexander Signature Hybrid is about average. We were aware of both movement and a slight sound from this mattress. Again, this shouldn’t affect the quality of your sleep unless you are easily disturbed and sensitive to movement and sound.

Is Nest Bedding suitable for couples and sex?

For couples concerned with sex, both these mattresses have certain features which make them outperform some of their competitors. It is generally accepted that more responsive mattresses are better for sex than sinking memory foams. The responsiveness of the Alexander Signature Select makes it better than traditional memory foam mattresses for ease of movement and changing position – yet it may be slower to respond than some may like.

Between the two mattresses, the Alexander Signature Hybrid is the better choice for sex. The added bounce from the coils and the responsiveness of the foam make it a very good option across many hybrid models.

Durability and longevity

Nest Bedding makes premium mattresses – and this has a direct bearing on the durability of the materials used in the Alexander Signature Select and Alexander Signature Hybrid mattresses. Foams are known to deteriorate over time – and this can be accelerated by a range of different features. While this may well be a possibility with Nest Bedding Mattresses, there are a number of factors around durability which get our thumbs up.

It is widely acknowledged that foams soften over time. This makes the flippable quality of the Alexander Signature Select that much more attractive, with a choice of foam construction and firmnesses to choose from.

Nest Bedding’s approach to warranties is also fantastic. A lifetime warranty is a sign of quality and we get the impression that, as a company, they want to remove any barriers to sheer enjoyment of their products. The comfort guarantee is another example of this: they will give you a discount on your next Nest Bedding bed. When it comes to the hybrid model, we also like that the foam comfort layers are replaceable over time – something which will extend the lifespan of your mattress.

Nest Bedding recommends replacing your box spring foundation with every new mattress you buy. They also warn against bowed or flexible slats.

Nest Bedding mattress complaints

Nest Bedding is immensely popular and there are many positive reviews for their mattresses online. We sifted through the online reviews to try and find the complaints and these are the main negative reviews we found:

  • Some customers reported defects with their mattresses as they aged, with lumps and sagging. This usually went in hand with an unsatisfactory warranty process. We found evidence of many of these complaints being resolved, with the customers reporting a positive service experience.
  • The warranty and comfort guarantee terms were a source of complaint for some customers who were trying to exchange or return their mattresses – both during and after the expiry of the sleep trial. As with any mattress company, always familiarize yourself with the terms of these policies so you know what to expect should they come into play.

Other mattresses by Nest Bedding

There are four other mattresses in the Nest Bedding range. The Love & Sleep is an all-foam mattress with cooling at its core. It comes in Medium and Firm options and has phase change material, Energex foam, and an Air Flow layer to manage heat as you sleep. It’s also Greenguard certified.

The Natural Hybrid Latex mattress combines natural and organic materials to tick the boxes around wellness. It has all of the responsiveness of latex in three firmness levels (Medium, Firm, and Plush). You also get the choice of a split here. The latex and eco-friendly foams are supported by pocketed coils for support.

Want a latex mattress, but don’t want a hybrid? Their All Latex Natural and Organic Mattress is latex and organic cotton only, with materials certified to high standards and combined in a sustainable design. It comes in a Medium and Firm feel, with the option of a split to cater for different sleeping preferences.

The Certified Organic Hybrid Latex is the go-to mattress for anyone who insists on organic products. Certified organic cotton, latex, and wool goes a long way for peace of mind around your health while you sleep – all resting on pocketed coils.

Our final verdict: Do we recommend the Nest Bedding mattress brand?

OUR RATING

4.5/5

4.5/5

Buying a mattress comes down to one thing: comfort. Nest Bedding is home to some of the most comfortable beds you can buy online and, for that, they get our recommendation. Over and above that, there are a few different things that make them stand out in the world of bed-in-a-box mattresses.

So many different elements go in to ensuring their customers get the most comfortable bed possible. That the Alexander Signature Select is flippable mitigates the chance of the wrong firmness getting in the way of comfort. Likewise, the three firmness options and split construction of the Alexander Signature Hybrid is geared towards happy sleepers. The lifetime warranty and comfort guarantee are great perks too.
