Botanical Bliss mattress performance
Botanical Bliss is the most popular mattress in the PlushBeds range – and it’s a mattress that has left me intrigued. If you have owned a latex mattress before, you’ll know that latex has its own character, which can take some getting used to if you have only ever slept on memory foam or hybrid mattresses.
With medium and medium-firm options, as well as three height profiles, I believe most sleepers in an average weight range will find the kind of comfort and pressure relief in the Botanical Bliss range. The three latex layers in both options range from soft to firm, making this a mattress you can arrange and rearrange according to preference – until your bed is just right.
Essentially, I’m of the opinion that the Botanical Bliss mattress sets a standard to which we should all aspire. The beds we sleep on shouldn’t contain any harmful chemicals or toxins. There is a peace that comes with knowing that it won’t be responsible for harmful emissions in our houses and that it is fully biodegradable when it reaches the end of its lifespan. Health is so very closely interlinked with sleep and the hypoallergenic and orthopedic benefits of latex make this organic, sustainable mattress worth considering when it comes to wellness.

As mentioned above, Botanical Bliss comes in a medium and medium-firm and I think they have rated this correctly – you can expect the firmness it says on the box. You also get the flexibility of the three firmness layers within the construction of the mattress. By changing around the firm and softer layers between the three Dunlop latex layers, you can adjust the firmness to suit your needs.
This means you get a little bit of wiggle room in terms of firmness. If you are a stomach or back sleeper in need of that invaluable firmness, you’ll find that the Botanical Bliss is comfortable when it comes to alignment and support – especially when set up within the firmer arrangement.
If you are a side sleeper like I am, you’ll find it offers more than adequate pressure relief where it matters: on the hips and shoulders – especially in the softer arrangement. If you are a side sleeper and pressure relief is a pivotal consideration, it is probably worth mentioning that you’re not going to get the same level of pressure relief as a memory foam mattress, but I don’t think this will be a make or break factor looking at overall performance. In fact, latex is renowned for its ability to provide comfortable pressure relief, cradling the contact points of the body.

Sleep position and body type
If you are of an average weight, the Botanical Bliss mattress has options for side, back, stomach, and combination sleepers. By experimenting with the three latex layers in different arrangements, I have no doubt that you will find a mattress set-up which is comfortable in their medium and medium-firm varieties – and with the three height options. Keep in mind that, if you are a stomach or back sleeper (or both), you will probably need something a little firmer.
If you are a heavy in stature, I don’t think you will enjoy the Botanical Bliss mattress, as you might find it sleeps a little soft for your needs. If you have your heart set on a Botanical Bliss mattress and you weigh in a little heavier, try to avoid going for the 9- or 10-inch options and go for the 12-inch. If you are an average-sized person, you may well find that the 9- and 10-inch options are just right for you.
As touched on above, if you are a side sleeper, it is important to remember that latex comes in firmer than foam. This is something to think about when it comes to pressure relief but, if you arrange the mattress to its softest setting, I believe most side sleepers won’t have any trouble with pain or discomfort on those hot spots. On this point, I’d probably advise that you look to one of the thicker height options. If you are a petite side sleeper, I would urge you to go for the medium option too.

This having an all-latex construction, there is little to no edge support on any of the Botanical Bliss mattresses. Don’t let this put you off – there are ways to circumvent this being a problem. There’s so much about the construction of the Botanical Bliss mattress that is geared at cooling. Latex is naturally a highly-effective breathable material. PlushBeds have designed the layers with air holes for added ventilation across the three latex layers. Over and above this, the wool used is also naturally breathable and contributes to cooling, as does the cotton cover, which will also keep you dry and comfortable. Motion isolation and noise
The latex construction of the Botanical Bliss mattress means it is generally noiseless. However, motion isolation is something to think about if you are a light sleeper sharing your bed with someone who tosses and turns. The responsiveness of the latex can be a blessing and a curse on this front. While it is not a damning feature of the bed, be warned that there is a chance that you will feel movement on your side of the bed when your partner gets up or moves during the night.

I would recommend the Botanical Bliss mattress for many different reasons. If you have an existing injury or suffer with back or joint pain, your doctor may well recommend a latex mattress. If you don’t have any existing complaints, I think it well worth considering a latex mattress for general support, pressure relief, and alignment.
I am also a big fan of the all-natural approach. It’s one less thing to worry about when it comes to air-borne chemicals and emissions and, if my mattress is going to be quietly doing something while I sleep, I would choose the benefits of organic, natural, hypoallergenic, supportive materials any day of the week. This is also more than just marketing hype. PlushBeds mattresses come with reams of certifications and I like their environmental and social approach to business.
At the end of the day, a latex mattress is going to present a very different sleeping experience to anyone used to different mattress types, but I imagine most sleepers will find a comfortable balance with the Botanical Bliss latex mattress.
